Courtney Powell

Back to About

Whilst Courtney’s first love is the theatre, she is cunningly disguised as a high school teacher by day, purely to fund her expensive theatre habit.

Previous roles include Kim in the Australian Premiere of Personals, The Nurse in Romeo+Juliet, one of six actors in 4.48 Psychosis, Mark’s Mother/Ensemble in Canned Laughter’s RENT, Mehitabel in Archy and Mehitabel, Gertrude in EUROBEAT: Almost Eurovision, Woman 2 in the NSW Premiere of EDGES: A Song Cycle, Joan in Dames at Sea, Die Alte in A Bright Room Called day and a Ninja, no less, in Dr Bones for the Short +Sweet Festival Top 100 at NIDA. She is also part of the Lips & Hips Cabaret Dancers, a group of burlesque dancers performing the heck out of venues in Sydney. She recently played The Cowardly Lion in their production of ‘Oz – A Burlesque Romp Down The Yellow Brick Road’. On the opposite end of the spectrum, she hosts the Humphrey B. Bear Live Show, is a seasonal performer at the El Rocco Jazz Cellar and will stilt-walk upon request.

She owes a huge thanks and many of her theatrical opportunities to Dramac and Macquarie Musical Society – the drama and musical societies at Macquarie University. If they’re proud, great!! If not… sorry!:)

Courtney has spent a lot time in America, living in New York City and working on Broadway with the New York City Summer Play Festival. She plans to return to New York to pursue an acting career in the states.
