Sophie Miller

For Sophie, music is her first love. She began playing the piano at age three, accompanying a children’s choir in Brisbane. She later took up other instruments including the flute and the guitar and the piccolo. Sophie is primarily a classically trained musician completing 8th grade AMEB exams on both piano and flute. As a teenager she formed a jazz band and performed as a vocalist with renowned jazz musicians such as James Morrison. She has also explored dramatic arts, completing her 8th grade musical theatre exam. Her roles include Cosette in Les Miserables.
In the past few years Sophie has used her musical and acting talent on campus at the University of Sydney through SUDS, Women’s College and Comedy Revues. Sophie performed in the Women’s College Cabaret evenings for three years, and in 2008 directed and performed in these evenings for crowds of 200 and more.
Sophie began composing seriously in 2007, and since then has been the principle composer and musical director for 5 different musical comedy shows. She debuted with Princess Cabaret which has toured Australian and achieved international success at the Edinburgh Festivals, receiving award nominations, 5 star reviews, and sold out houses. She has also been the musical mind behind the successful comedy children’s shows Alice in Wonderland, Alice through the looking glass, and Fairyfail, which have all enjoyed successful seasons at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival.
Sophie has branched out from scripted musical comedy to the world of improvised comedy, playing frequently for Blank the Musical, and other short form impro shows around Sydney.
Sophie’s passion and talent for cabaret, jazz and satire combined with the comedic writing and directorial talent of Brydie Lee-Kennedy has proved a winning combination. Sophie is also fluent in Mandarin. We frequently wonder how one person can do so much.
